Qualities Of A Good Principal

Principals are hard tasks. As the face and head of the school, he is responsible for the education that each student receives under his care and he appoints the head of the school. They make decisions about a week after week and week after week on implementation decisions and student discipline. So what features should show good principals? The following is a list of the nine characteristics that effective school leaders have.

Provides support:

Good teachers need help. They believe that when there is a problem in their classroom, they will get help when they need it. According to a survey by the Detroit Federation, one-third of the more than 300 teachers who resigned in 1997-1998 did so due to a lack of administrative support. This situation has not changed much in the last decade. This is not to say that the principal should turn a blind eye to teachers without using his own judgment. Obviously, teachers are human beings who make mistakes. Although, the overall sense of the principal should be one of beliefs and support.

Very prominent:

A good principle is a must-see. They will be out in the halls, interacting with students, participating in PP rallies, and participating in sports matches. Their presence is such that students know who they are and feel comfortable with, and interact with them.

Effective listener:

This principal must spend as much time with them as possible. Listen to others. Assistant principals, teachers, students, parents, and staff. Therefore, they need to learn and practice active listening skills every single day. They need to be present in every hundred conversations, despite the other hundred things that are calling for their attention. They are also being told what to do before they come up with their own opinion.

Problem solver:

The principal’s job is to solve the problem. In many cases, new principals come to a particular school, because it faces. It may be that the school’s test score is really low. It has a large number of disciplinary issues, or it faces financial issues due to poor leadership through the previous administrator. New or established, a principal will be asked to help in very difficult and challenging situations every day. Therefore, they prefer concrete steps to solve problems, and their problem-solving skills by learning are appreciated.

Advises others:

A good principal, like a good CEO or any other executive, should give his employees a sense of empowerment. Business management classes in college often refer to companies such as Harley-Davidson and Toyota, which provide mutual solutions to their employees and consider quality issues. So also insist to stop line production. While teachers are usually in charge of their own class, many find it pointless to affect school integrity. The principal needs to be open and responsible to the teacher’s suggestions for school improvement.

There is a clear vision:

The principal is the school leader. Ultimately, they are responsible for everything that goes to school. Their behavior and attitude need to be loud and clear. They may find it useful to create their own statement of interest, which they see, and must implement their own educational philosophy in the school setting.

One principal performed poorly on his first day. He went to the office and waited a few minutes to see, what would happen to the receptionist located behind the high counter. It also took a while for him to recognize their presence. Then and there, he decided that his first job as principal would be to eliminate this high counter. His approach was one of an open environment where students and parents were invited to be part of the community. Removing this approach was an important step towards achieving this approach.
